Metal mesh sump filter

 If you've spent any time associated with or working on the bevel drive Ducatis, from the early 160cc singles through to the 1000cc twins then you may well have come across 'twisted filter syndrome'. Usually occurs where the locating spigot has not quite located correctly during assembly and the plastic/ nylon filter tube has collapsed and spiralled as the filter is forced home. If you are aware of it early enough you can dismantle and try again, hoping for better results. But, if you're not aware then the end result is an engine completely without even the rudimentary filtration that the usual filter provides and the distorted filter can in fact partially block the oil pump inlet. This is officially "NOT a good situation". SO, what you want is an accurately machined, rigid assembly that is only going to fit correctly with no chance of being incorrectly located at the oil pump side of the engine. Correct? CORRECT!
